Some changes are coming to the restaurant scene at one Loudoun County shopping center – but many (most) of the details are still under wraps.
The Burn learned on Monday that both the Social House Kitchen & Tap and the Velocity Wings in the South Riding/Chantilly area along Route 50 will be closing.
They are located next door to each other in the East Gate Marketplace plaza. An exact date for the closures hasn’t been made public yet, but likely later this month.
We reached out to Thompson Restaurants, which owns and operates both brands, for more details on the plans. A spokesperson for the company said they couldn’t reveal too much yet – but the closing of the Social House and the Velocity Wings is not the end of the story.
“We are committed to both South Riding locations and have exciting plans for the near future – stay tuned for more updates,” said Alex Berentzen, COO for Thompson.
As regular readers know, Thompson Restaurants – which is based in Reston – has been changing up a number of their restaurant locations.
In Ashburn, the Social House restaurant at Goose Creek Village became a Makers Union gastropub last year.
And in Sterling, the company’s Locals Taco & Tequila location in the Great Falls Plaza became a new concept called Ms. Peach’s Southern Kitchen.
In that same center, a Velocity Wings recently closed and is being turned into another Thompson brand called Austin Grill. That location is expected to open soon.
So this begs the question – if Thompson is committed to the locations at East Gate Marketplace, are they going to change their two locations there into new brands?
The answer is likely yes, but at this juncture, Berentzen is mum on any additional details. So like he said – stay tuned.
