In the hubbub of the holidays, we overlooked the sad news that the tiny Doughlab doughnut shop closed its doors at the end of the year.
Doughlab originally opened last February in the Cascades Overlook shopping center in Sterling. Prior to that, it had operated in downtown Leesburg several years ago.
The shop was known for its masaladas, a fried pastry popular in Hawaii, that is often filled with fillings and topped with powdered sugar or cinnamon.
No reason was given for the closure, but in a parting message, the owners said, “Thank you for showing up … and loving us so loudly. We’re so grateful for every moment and will carry this community with us forever.”
The Doughlab closure leaves a roughly 800 s.f. space available. It was previously home to an Abbott’s Frozen Custard shop.
