We have some new details today about a long-planned retail shopping center in southern Loudoun County. We’re talking about the Shops at Arcola.
And the headline is the developer plans on bringing in an organic grocery store to anchor the development.
Longtime readers know that the Shops at Arcola have been gestating for years down near the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway and Dulles West Boulevard.
That’s where the new Target store recently opened on an adjacent property.
At one point, there was supposed to be a Wegmans grocery store built there, but sadly that deal fell through.
There was also talk of a Kohls department store at the site, but there’s been no additional word about that for years either.
Now, we’ve seen some new renderings and plans online as the landlord begins to market the property to future tenants.

The arrival of the Target store next door is likely the trigger the developer needed to move forward.
Plans indicate a roughly 30,000 s.f. market has signed a lease and the developer is specifically listing it as an “organic foods market” – but no details on which brand it might be.
Names like Sprouts Farmers Market and Mom’s Organic Market – both of which are active in Northern Virginia – come to mind, but that’s pure speculation.
The plans also show there will be multiple additional buildings constructed – some 50,000+ s.f. worth of space – for more stores and restaurants. No word on who any of these tenants might be yet.
There is also supposed to be a gas station built at the back entrance to the Target, at the corner of Arcola Mills Drive and Dulles Run Drive.
