The Difference Baker planning new retail store in Loudoun

Big news for fans of The Difference Baker. The allergen-free bakery is making some big moves – including preparing to open a new retail store in Loudoun County.

According to owner and founder Alyssa Sobecki, The Difference Baker will be opening its new store at the Dulles 28 Centre. It will be going into a roughly 1,200 s.f. space next door to the Chipotle restaurant.

That spot used to be the home of Nautical Bowls, which closed a few days ago. (See our report on that closure here.)

The Difference Baker specializes in baked goods and prepared foods that are free of some of the most common allergens, including gluten, peanut, tree nut, soy, fish, sesame and crustacean.

Its menu includes breakfast sandwiches, doughnuts, cookies, pastas, chicken strips, and more.

The bakery has long had a location on Ashburn Road in the Old Ashburn community.

The retail store will be moving from there to Dulles 28 and the Ashburn Road spot will become solely a production facility.

Right now, we’re told the plans call for the new retail store to be ready to open its doors sometime in May.

Other big changes could be coming in the near future for The Difference Baker, including plans to begin shipping its goods nationwide and the possibility of franchising the brand into other communities.
