Unfortunate news this week as Leesburg Gourmet in downtown Leesburg announces it will be closing its doors soon.
The shop specializing in fine chocolates, craft beers, select wines and other items has been a staple of the downtown for six years now.
In an honest and frank email to longtime customers, owner David Mercado wrote: “Since opening on March 6, 2020, just seven days before Covid 19 mandates took effect, it has been a struggle to keep our doors open while offering the amazing town of Leesburg one-of-a-kind wine and chocolate experiences.”
“However the time has come to accept the economics of my decision to remain open all these years,” he continued.

The shop is located at one of the most desirable spots in Leesburg – the busy corner of Loudoun Street and South King. The address is 29 South King.
Mercado says an investment group is taking over the coveted space and will be announcing a new concept too. It’s unclear what type of concept it will be.
In the meantime, sales are underway on remaining merchandise as well as furniture and fixtures in the store.
