Last year, The Burn told readers how Mountain Mike’s Pizza – a California-based brand – was looking to expand into Northern Virginia. Now we know the first spot where Mike’s will set up shop.
Mountain Mike’s is going to open 3,000 s.f. restaurant in the South Lakes Village shopping center in Reston.
That’s a Safeway-anchored neighborhood center off of South Lakes Drive. Mike’s is going into a spot next door to Chipotle that used to be a Pet Valu pet supply store.
Mountain Mike’s has more than 300 locations, but they are all in the western half of the U.S. The closest Mike’s to the east coast is in Wisconsin, according to the company’s website.
But last year, it was announced that Mike’s had signed a local franchisee to bring three locations to NoVa, specifically Loudoun and Fairfax counties.
Now the first local location has been chosen — with more locations anticipated.
Many of the specialty pizzas at Mountain Mike’s have mountain-themed names, such as the Snowy Alps, with pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, Italian sausage, green onions, diced tomatoes and a creamy garlic sauce.
There’s also the Pike’s Peak – which is a meat lover’s style pizza – and the Mt. Veggiemore which has mushrooms, black olives, bell peppers, artichoke hearts, and sliced fresh tomatoes.
The menu also features salads, wings, sandwiches, garlic knots, French fries and other items. You can see the full Mountain Mike’s menu here.
No word yet on when the first area Mountain Mike’s Pizza will open. Construction on the new Reston location is expected to get started around May.
