Loudoun’s two Painted Tree Boutiques part of nationwide shutdown

Shocking news breaking today as word spreads that all Painted Tree Boutiques stores across the nation are closing down. That apparently includes the two local stores in Loudoun County.

The stores feature kiosks where local artisans and craftspeople sell their products in a communal space. Tenants were notified in an email late Tuesday morning.

“It is with deep regret that we write to inform you that Painted Tree Boutiques has made the difficult decision to cease all business operations today,” the email read. “Painted Tree will not be conducting any further retail sales at any location.”

The immediate closure includes the Dulles Landing store which opened in June 2024 and the Sugarland Crossing store in Sterling which opened less than a year ago, in May 2025.

Sean Graphman operates Graphman Coffee Roasters, a home-based coffee roasting business. He had just signed on with Painted Tree in Sterling in February and had a sales display there.

Today, he got the email and stopped by to clear out his inventory and belongings.

“None of the employees knew anything. I asked them as I was moving stuff out today and it was a surprise to them,” Graphman told The Burn. “I knew that traffic was slow … and I knew that sales were not likely justifying what (Painted Tree) was paying in rent.”

According to the Painted Tree website, the Dulles and Sterling stores were the only two Painted Tree Boutiques in the greater DC market.

Nationwide, there were more than 60 Painted Tree Boutiques locations stretching across the country.
