Police officers on motorcycles stopped traffic across Loudoun and Fairfax counties today as they cleared the way for a special group of runners.
The Relay for America is approaching the end of its cross country trek as it prepares to arrive in Washington DC on Saturday, July 4 – Independence Day.
The Burn encountered the runners as they moved through Ashburn, running along Russell Branch Parkway just to the east of Loudoun County Parkway and One Loudoun.
The Relay for America is a coast-to-coast running event where hundreds of participants continuously pass a single American flag.
The relay’s path covers more than 3,000 miles – from the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Importantly, each mile is dedicated in honor of an American veteran.
All across the country, local runners have come out and joined the relay racers as they ran through their communities.
