A lot has changed in Loudoun County since 1975.
When R.A. Dobson Heating, Air Conditioning, Plumbing first opened its doors, Loudoun had just three high schools — Loudoun County, Loudoun Valley, and Broad Run. Ashburn was still largely farmland. Route 66 hadn’t yet been completed to Front Royal. The county’s population was just over 50,000 residents.
More than five decades later, Loudoun is one of the fastest-growing counties in America, but one local company has been there through it all.
Sterling-based R.A. Dobson is celebrating more than 50 years serving Northern Virginia homeowners with heating, air conditioning, and plumbing services.
The company remains family-owned and is now led by the second generation of the Dobson family. Over the decades, R.A. Dobson has grown alongside the communities it serves, earning the trust of thousands of homeowners throughout Loudoun County and Northern Virginia.
That trust is perhaps best reflected in the company’s customer base.
“We frequently find ourselves working in the homes of the children and even grandchildren of some of our earliest customers,” said Travis Dobson, president of R.A. Dobson. “Our goal has always been simple — provide exceptional service, build long-term relationships, and be the company families trust whenever they need help.”
That philosophy has helped the company stand out in an industry where homeowners are often looking for more than just a repair. R.A. Dobson technicians are trained to explain problems, answer questions, and walk customers through their options so they can make informed decisions about their homes.

With summer temperatures settled onto Northern Virginia and air conditioners working overtime, many homeowners are scheduling preventative maintenance appointments, air conditioning repairs, or replacing aging builder grade HVAC systems with new more energy efficient ones before a breakdown occurs.
R.A. Dobson is a distinguished Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer and installs Carrier heating and cooling systems, while also servicing and repairing all major HVAC brands.
After more than 50 years, the company says its focus remains the same as it was in 1975 — taking care of customers, earning their trust, and being there when they need help most.
