Ever since Whole Foods left the Plaza America shopping center in Reston, there’s been speculation about what new tenant could come in a take the space – and now we know.
The landlord has confirmed that a Lidl discount grocery store will become the new anchor tenant at the center.
Lidl is a German grocery store chain that competes directly with fellow German brand Aldi. Both are full grocery stores, but usually offer fewer brand options and lots of house brand items – all at a discount.
Lidl started moving aggressively into the U.S. market in 2017 and now has numerous locations around Northern Virginia.

The story of the Plaza America location dates back to 2022 when The Burn first broke the news that Whole Foods was possibly moving.
Ultimately, the organic grocer did indeed move to The Spectrum at Reston Town Center, opening there last August.
Meanwhile, the deal to bring Lidl to Plaza America is brand new, so no word yet when the store will schedule an opening.
