A shawarma chain with a long history in the Middle East is getting ready to make its Northern Virginia debut with a new location in Fairfax.
The brand is called Shawerma Reem and it will be opening at 8632 Route 29 in Fairfax.
Shawerma Reem got its start as a food stand in Amman, Jordan in 1975 and has operations in that country as well as Saudi Arabia. Now, the brand is entering the U.S. market.
The menu at Shawerma Reem includes chicken and beef shawarma sandwiches, platters, bowls, as well as house-made hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, fattoush, pita bread, and more.
They also have sides of fava beans, French fries, and mozzarella sticks. You can see more about the Shawrema Reem menu here.
No opening date has been announced, but on social media, the owners say Shawerma Reem is “coming soon.”
Note: The two different spellings of shawarma (ours) and shawerma (theirs) are just different ways of transliterating the Arabic alphabet.
Both terms refer to the same thing – the popular Middle Eastern street food made from thinly sliced, spiced meat stacked into a cone and slow-roasted on a vertical rotisserie.
