About the Burn

WHAT IS THE BURN?

The Burn is a local news site covering the coolest things happening in Ashburn and eastern Loudoun County. This includes Leesburg, Sterling and the South Riding area.

WHAT STORIES DOES THE BURN COVER?

There aren’t many hard and fast rules. If a story makes us say, “Wow” or “Hey, that’s cool,” we’ll likely cover it. And sometimes it’s something sad, or heartwarming, or surprising. But as regular readers know, our primary focus has been on restaurants, retail shopping and roads.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR STORIES?

We could tell you, but then we’d have to kill you. Seriously, we get our stories from a hundred different places, much of it through good, old-fashioned reporting — observing, digging, researching, making phone calls, schmoozing, you name it. A large portion of our stories also result from tips sent in by readers, which is very much appreciated. You can e-mail your tips to:

WHAT ARE “WOW” STORIES?

These are interesting stories that don’t quite fit in our other categories — stories like when Alex Ovechkin shot a commercial in Ashburn, or a bear is seen running through a local neighborhood, or we have severe weather and there are amazing storm photos.

DO YOU REPORT RUMORS?

No. Everything we report on The Burn has either been uncovered doing research or has been told to us by someone in a position to know. On the rare occasion we address a rumor that is circulating, we will identify it as a rumor and say The Burn has not confirmed it.

WHO IS BEHIND THE BURN?

The Burn is primarily written by Chris Wadsworth, a long-time Ashburn resident and journalist with more than 25 years experience in television, newspapers and magazines.
